| Marine Maintenance Engineer - Wednesday, 23 March 2011Cool head, steady hand, passion and the ability to maintain, diagnose and repair marine equipment?
Fantasea Adventure Cruising is rejuvenating its shore support team and has positions for four experienced maintenance engineers. We are introducing new machinery, new vessels, new processes and a new attitude.
If you are an Australian resident, and have:
• A trade qualification (fitter or similar)
• Marine Engineering qualification - MED 1 or equivalent.
• Proven “hands on” experience in marine engineering and vessel’s engineering systems.
o 3+ yrs ship operational maintenance either afloat or ashore (or ship construction experience)
• Demonstrated knowledge of marine equipment and solid general machinery knowledge.
• Experience in software based maintenance management systems
• Excellent English communications skills both written and verbal.
These positions will be based in the Whitsundays on a full time basis.

We are currently looking to fill the following positions:
OPEN MASTER IV
An experienced and competent open Master IV Skipper with experience in tourism, and the ability to provide quality customer service. This position involves driving high speed catamarans for our daily cruise and ferry vessels, but also extends to managing crew and passenger movements.
MED 1 VESSEL ENGINEER
An enthusiastic and experienced MED 1 qualified engineers to provide daily services on our day cruises and ferry vessels.
DECKHAND
An experienced deckhand with a strong background in marine tourism & customer service to work on our daily cruise vessels. Senior First Aid, CPR, RSA, Elements of Shipboard Safety are essential. This roster would involve some overnight stays on island, including accommodation and food.

Key Duties and Responsibilities.
This role is one of 3 Asset Engineer team members in the Asset Management Team. The Asset Management team are responsible for:
- Assurance to HQ that the marine and shore based assets deployed around the company’s operational business units are maintained in condition in accordance with company policy.
- Technical and “trouble shooting” support to business units
- Project and technical management for:
- Vessel slipping and major refit/repairs
- Vessel new-builds
- Implementation of new engineering systems or equipments.
The Asset Engineer will:
- Be based in Brisbane, but can expect to travel and be required to work away from Brisbane on occasion.
- Be mostly supervisory, but will be “hands-on” on occasion (hence requirement for practical trade background)
- Identify and cost works:
- Formulate scope of works documents for repair and maintenance of both land and shore based assets
- Seek quotations/estimates
- Prepare budgets for Capital Expenditure applications
- Manage works
- Supervise contractors as necessary in execution of works.
- Track costs of works.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities (Class, state and commonwealth surveyors).
- Maintain and improve safe engineering work practices and procedures within the Asset Management group.
- Become fully conversant with company’s marine and land operations, and provide engineering expertise to support these operations.
- Apply knowledge and expertise as required to maintain and improve the company’s existing afloat and shore based assets and management systems.
- Perform any other duties compatible with experience, skills and abilities to assist in pursuit of company’s goals.
Prerequisites and Qualifications
Essential
- Trade qualification – Diesel fitter or similar
- Marine Engineering qualification -MED 1 or equivalent.
- Proven experience in marine engineering, and vessel systems.
- 3+ yrs ship operation or construction experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of marine equipment and solid general machinery knowledge.
- Innovative and able to research, develop and implement initiatives with minimal supervision
- Willingness to travel to attend company’s business units, vessel dockings, shipyards etc.
- Excellent English communications skills both written and verbal.
- Organisational skills and ability to plan and meet deadlines
- Australian resident
Desirable
- Conversant with USL/NSCV codes, and Australian survey & registration process
- Electrical knowledge.
